Therapeutic Recreation Well-being Initiative
Through our partnership with Veterans and First Responders Health Care (VFR) we were excited to be connected with Northeast Passage, leaders in therapeutic recreation and adaptive sports. During the last quarter of 2020 with a grant funded by Swim with a Mission (SWAM) we worked together to offer new and exciting Warrior Reset programs for Veterans in the New Hampshire region. The idea that leisure and recreation could be valued and prioritized as part of health and wellbeing was the overarching theme.
Northeast Passage provided weekly programming for veterans and their family members at Boulder Point Veterans Housing, the first permanent residence for homeless veterans in northern New Hampshire. Weekly wellness programs were also offered in the Lakes region of NH at the Laconia community center. Clear Path acquired five mountain bikes and offered group rides in the Nashoba Valley rail area.
Veterans and First Responders Healthcare (VFR) provided strategic direction in the development and delivery of NE Passage recreational therapy services that complement their recovery programs. With VFR assistance NE Passage was able to offer zoom/telehealth sessions with recreation-based content.
The grant funding served 98 Veterans, many of whom participated in multiple events. Family members also took part in activities. As we look forward to the new year we hope to continue to build on this experience as we add more recreational based programming.
